30 October to 2nd November 2026
A twice re-scheduled trip to Castlerigg Hall, first due to the slightly early arrival of grandchild number two and then a named storm last weekend.
Friday
The problem with the caravan lights has been fixed and we had no problems getting here and settling into our pre allocated pitch.
As is customary here we headed down the hill into Keswick after lunch. We had a drink in our favourite pubs (The Dog and Gun, the Wainwright Inn and Keswick Craft Beer) and dinner in Bar eS, which is a tapas restaurant. Then a cheap taxi back to the site.
Saturday
Excellent autumnal weather today so we drove to Mungrisdale to bag a couple of easyish Wainwrights - Bannerdale Crags and Bowscale Fell.
Quite an easy walk apart from the very steep descent at the very end, and the weather stayed nice all the time we were out.
In the afternoon we lounged around the caravan and then had a quiet night in, after driving into Keswick for supplies and a portion of chips to go with dinner.
Sunday
A much cloudier start to the day today but still no rain. We walked into Keswick via Castlehead and re-visited our favourite pubs, including a roast dinner in the Wainwright Inn.
We got a bus back to the site (couldn't get a taxi) and couldn't believe our luck when we discovered it was pretty much empty. Just how we like it.
Quite a cold night but we woke up to a pretty good sunrise.
An early start because we needed to get home before midday and we were on our way by 8.30.
Coming up...
Another trip mid November to keep the dream of a trip in every month alive. First choice is Hawes but we're not sure if the B6255 leading to it is open or closed, it's not clear online. We will check again nearer the time and live in hope.
